Lego Technic Racing Yacht

This is brilliant! As someone who is actively working toward this goal, I can safely say that this Lego set is the perfect tool to expose a three year old to the world of sailing! There are many reasons why this kit is fantastic (not the least of which is the mind-boggling brilliance behind any of these Technic sets), but I’ll highlight just a few here…

First, the set offers two alternative boat designs. This is incredible by itself, until you consider that it does so with almost complete utilization of all parts in each embodiment. Perhaps even more brilliant, however, is that the two boats are of completely different scales! The primary embodiment closely resembles a Volvo Ocean 65. (This was extremely handy when we first received the kit, as we were following the race at the time.) The second resembles a catamaran of roughly 16 - 18 feet, which could be any of a number of popular racing classes. In each build, the scale works perfectly, including rigging, sail handling and steering components scaled to the size of each boat. Add to this to the mechanics behind each of these systems (and the LEGOs themselves), and you have a powerful tool to brainwash a kiddo into both product design and sailing. If you have a child of any age, use that as a reason to check this out. Click here to buy on Amazon.
